Description: A great, sleek design that incorporates an excellent display, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an optical trackpad instead of the traditional trackball. This smartphone offers Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi with Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA)  support and is 3G capable. It has a more rapid processor and is the successor to the Blackberry OS 5.

Features: This comprehensive Blackberry offers, among its many useful features, a speaker phone, world roaming with quad-band, voice activated dialling, smart dialling, conference calls, speed dialling, text messaging and multimedia, as well as visual voicemail.

Audio and Video Quality: Bluetooth, for both mono and stereo Bluetooth headsets is also available and the Bold 9700 offers clear audio due to its high quality noise suppression technology which reduces background interference.  It is also GPS/A-GPS equipped. Support for hands-free kits, dial-up networking, serial port profile, and remote AudioVisual is also included.

Messaging and Data: In addition to the messaging capabilities offered by this device, with the Internet Service offered by Blackberry it is possible to access as many as 10 POP3 or IMAP 4 email accounts.  It is also posible to open attachments in, among others,  Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, PDF, JPEG and GIF.  Editing is also possible in Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.

The RIM Blackberry Bold also provides UMA support making Wi-Fi calls possible. It boasts a faster processor, and the OS has been updated.

Performance: The  RIM Blackberry Bold 9700 is the first 3G Mobile produced by T-Mobile and sports several valuable performance enhancements. In addition to its faster processor, The Bold 9700 comes with an updated operating system and the UMA support makes Wi-Fi calls possible. Sound quality has been improved and an upgraded camera from 2 megapixels to 3.5 megapixels has resulted in much improved quality of images. The camera brings with it facilities for variable zoom, auto focus and video recording. The GPS option can be used to obtain geotag photos.

Call quality is good overall and the speaker phone has good volume although there was some distortion of voices at times.

Interface: The interface has undergone some refinements, with an easier to use calendar that has drop-down lists and the easy to personalize the home screen with a choice of themes, images and shortcuts.

Browser: The general performance was seen to be smooth throughout and most major sites can be loaded quickly. Music downoads and streaming were satisfactorily tested.  However, browser tools are still somewhat limited and in general, navigation was a bit clumsy.
